Accelerated Breeding: Optimize Breeding Pipelines. Deliver Better Results Faster

REGISTER TO ATTEND THIS HYBRID EVENT

The race is on to feed a growing world more sustainably, in the face of limited resources, climate change and geopolitical conflict. The need for innovative tools and technologies that can do more with less, increase quality crop yield and resiliency has never been more pronounced.

Accelerated breeding – combining the latest plant breeding technologies such as speed breeding, doubled haploid technologies and genomic selection with data management and analytics – is effective innovation to meet the world’s demand for safe and nutritious food.

Used and proven for over 20 years in dairy and for more than a decade in corn and soybean, accelerated breeding technologies:

  • Shorten the breeding cycle of crops;
  • Enable breeding to changing environments;
  • Enhance the rate of genetic gain;
  • Increase genetic gain per dollar invested;
  • Enhance sustainable food production and increase crop yields.

GIFS invites you to hear from Professor German Spangenberg, Emeritus Professor, La Trobe University and former Head, Agriculture Victoria Research in Australia, as he shares strategies and learnings from several years establishing and implementing successful accelerated breeding programs for livestock and crops in Australia. A member of GIFS’ International Scientific Advisory Panel, Professor Spangenberg has received numerous recognitions for his contributions to scientific research in the agriculture sector.

Also speaking will be Dr. John Davies, from the Global Institute for Food Security, sharing the opportunity for Western Canadian agriculture as GIFS establishes it Accelerated Breeding Program for the agriculture and food sectors.
