Research Scientist

Wendy joined GIFS in 2018 and is captivated by the molecular underpinnings of plant phenotypes and traits. She uses genomics, molecular and quantitative genetics, and gene editing approaches to understand plant physiology and enhance crop traits. At GIFS, Wendy focuses on sustainable agriculture solutions, including nutrient use efficiency and root physiology.

She completed a B.Sc. in cell and molecular biology from the University of Calgary and a Ph.D. in plant molecular biology from Dalhousie University. For her Ph.D. research, Wendy explored the role of E3 ligases and the ubiquitin-proteasome system in plant signaling and response to environmental changes using Arabidopsis thaliana. Before joining GIFS, Wendy worked in government at the National Research Council Canada and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, where she worked on molecular mechanisms underlying phenotypic traits in wheat (Triticum aestivum) and adjusting the protein profile of Camelina sativa using gene editing.
