Internships advancing education and research

A team from the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) participated in an announcement Monday supporting Mitacs programs.

At the event, the Government of Saskatchewan announced support of $1.15 million to research and innovation internships in the province.

Travis Gray, a graduate student at the University of Saskatchewan and Research Technician with GIFS, spoke about his Mitacs internship, working with GIFS and Nuseed to further enhance PlotVision, an exciting tool that uses drone imagery to assess large numbers of field plots.

“I was able to complete my Master’s while also working on this project with an industry leader in plant breeding,” said Gray. “This hands-on experience was beneficial to my own education and the growth of the PlotVision project.”

Mitacs is a non-profit supporting research and skills training through internship placements for post-secondary students attending the University of Saskatchewan and other institutions.
