 About the speakers

  • Kristal Allen, Partner, Dentons Venture Technology and Emerging Growth, and Agribusiness practice groups (Calgary) — Kristal’s practice centers on corporate and commercial law with a focus on the intersection of technology, intellectual property and data protection, especially in innovative industries such as food, agriculture, healthcare, energy and financial services. Kristal’s specific areas of focus include the exploitation and commercialization of information and intellectual property assets and new technology, technology/product development and commercialization agreements, intellectual property strategy and management, and both in- and out-licensing.
  • Megha Bajaj (PhD), Business Lead, Global Institute for Food Security — Megha is the Business Lead for GIFS’ Engineering Biology Platform — the only one of its kind in Canada dedicated exclusively to supporting agriculture and agri-food research. Before joining GIFS, Megha worked at Innovate Calgary, the technology transfer office and business incubator of the University of Calgary, helping build intellectual property strategy and commercialization of new technologies. She has extensive experience setting up productive collaborations with multiple stakeholders, negotiating legal and financial terms in revenue-bearing agreements, market assessment of new technologies, industry outreach, and relationship building with internal and external stakeholders.
