Join us for the GIFS PacBio Launch Day

Get the latest on SMRT sequencing applications and capabilities from scientists and researchers at the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS), the University of Saskatchewan (USask), the University of Manitoba, and PacBio.

WHAT: Three short presentations on the applications and capabilities of PacBio’s HiFi machine that was recently added to the GIFS OPAL technology platform. Refreshments and a light lunch are included for those attending in person.

Host, Carla Protsko, Business Lead for the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) will provide a brief overview of the Omics and Precision Agriculture Laboratory (OPAL) at GIFS and introduce its latest PacBio addition.

Matt Arriola from PacBio explores the diverse applications of PacBio HiFi sequencing

Dr. Tony Ruzzini, USask

Dr. Tony Ruzzini from the Department of Veterinary Microbiology at USask discusses animal applications of this technology and how long-form reads allowed his lab to discover a new antimicrobial resistance gene.

Dr. Harmeet Chawla from the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the University of Manitoba discusses plant applications of this technology for canola and other long-read genome assembly and annotation applications.
