Dr. Kiran Sharma
The Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) regrets to announce the passing of Dr. Kiran Sharma, a member of our International Scientific Advisory Panel, on August 1, 2023.
Dr. Sharma was Senior Director, Sustainable Agriculture at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), an independent, multi-dimensional organization, with capabilities in research, policy, consultancy and implementation. Prior to this role, he was the Principal Scientist (Cell & Molecular Biology) at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), a non-profit organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world.
He gained a Master’s degree in plant physiology from the CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, and a PhD from the University of Delhi, both in India. He conducted postdoctoral work at the University of Calgary in Canada, where he worked on various aspects of cell and developmental biology and biotechnology.
Dr. Sharma joined the ISAP when it was first established in 2016, and we are sincerely grateful for his interest in GIFS and his contributions to the panel over the years.
